His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, UAE and Ruler of Ajman Granted Audience to the Emirati Graduates & Congratulated them on their achievement.
Gulf Medical University owned by the Thumbay Group, a leading medical university in the region conducted its biggest 17th virtual convocation 2020 conferring degrees to 354 Healthcare Professionals from 41 countries to join the frontline which includes 36 Emirati graduates from UAE.
The convocation ceremony was held virtually and select graduates were presented degrees by Dr. Thumbay Moideen – Founder, President Board of Trustees in presence of Prof. Hossam Hamdy – Chancellor of GMU and Various Deans of Colleges.
The 354 graduates this year included 62 students from Medicine, 29 from Preclinical Sciences, 12 from Biomedical Sciences, 13 from Master’s in Joint Health Professions Educ action, 5 in Master in Public Health, 51 from Dentistry, 31 from Pharmacy, 10 from Master in Clinical Pharmacy, 21 from Physiotherapy, 8 from Medical Laboratory, 9 from Medical Imaging, 9 from Anesthesia technology, 7 from Master of Physical Therapy, 72 from Nursing and 15 form Master in Healthcare Management and Economics.
Addressing the graduates, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder, President Board of Trustees, Gulf Medical University (GMU) said, “GMU is now into its 23rd year of operation and we are now among the most in demand private medical university in the region, our network of Thumbay Academic Hospitals is one among the biggest network of academic hospitals in the country. We have been unique and trendsetters in the country and have attracted students from 86 countries, faculty and staff from 50 countries and treat patients from over 175 nationalities.”
Dr. Thumbay Moideen thanked H.H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi for the government’s continuous support to the institution. He acknowledged the contributions of the academic team headed by the Chancellor, the faculty, administrative staff and other staff of GMU. Congratulating the graduates, he assured them of GMU’s support always.
The Chancellor of GMU, Prof. Hossam Hamdy said that the number of colleges has increased to six colleges, medicine, dentistry, health sciences, pharmacy, nursing and the College of Health Care Administration and Economics, which is the only college in this specialization in the Arab region and the Middle East. The number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs has increased to twenty-seven programs, in addition to the doctorate program, PhD in ‘Precision Medicine’ that will be awarded in 2021 by the Gulf Medical University and the Paris Saclay, the largest French university. More than two thousand students from 86 countries are currently studying at the university, they are learning together, united by the value of “tolerance,” and we hope that the number of students at the university during the next three years will reach nearly 3000 students.
He added that GMU established for the first time in a private university an integrated system of healthcare and academia thus improving the level of health services, education and scientific research.
In the field of scientific research, the university has established international recognized research laboratories that cooperate with a large number of international research centers and work with their counterparts in the UAE, especially in the field of immunology research for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases. The university’s colleges and faculty conduct high quality scientific research and have published papers accepted for publication in major scientific journals such as Nature.
Prof. Hossam Hamdy advised the graduates to be led by the values of empathy, altruism, conscience, truthfulness, teamwork and fear of God, throughout their careers.
